Microsoft Windows Deployment Service – Troubleshooting Task Sequence Halting

Release date: September 17th 2021

Welcome to my Microsoft Tips & Tricks section. In my session: Microsoft Windows Deployment Service – Configure, I configured the Customsettings.ini and Bootstrap.ini. files. When I later tested the Task Sequence I had an issue with the task sequence halting at: “Run the Deployment Wizard…”, as shown below.

The correct way to avoid this is to add SkipBDDWelcome=YES to Customsettings.ini and Bootstrap.ini. When I check these files, I clearly see where I went wrong

Once I had corrected the typo, I ran through a complete update of the Deployment Share

Having done this, I tested the task sequence and still got the same error that I had to begin with. After a little googling, I discovered that I had to delete the boot image in WDS and import the new boot image that was created when I regenerated the boot image above.

Once done, I could run through my task sequences without further hickups.

I don’t know if this is very helpful to very many people, but if you run into the same issue, this is how I fixed my problem.
