Welcome to my VMware Dynamic Environment Manager series. The new version of DEM, v. 2111 build 10.4.0.1013, was GA on November 30th 2021. In this section I will describe how I upgraded my VMware DEM Set Up to v. 2111. But first, at what point in an upgrade procedure should we upgrade the VMware DEM Components? According to VMware’s official documentation, Update sequence for Horizon 7, Horizon 8, and compatible VMware products (78445), this should be done after a VMware Tools upgrade as shown below.

Make sure to check out and test the new features, I will come back with posts as I complete my extensive tests at a later time.
Another important part of the release notes to observe, is the part about “Updated Components”. Notice that in this version Application Profiler isn’t updated.
I will base my upgrade procedure on VMware’s official documentation here: Upgrade VMware Dynamic Environment Manager v. 2111 As there is a change in the FlexEngine launch configuration, I can now clean up the GPO settings as describe below.

- Upgrade DEM Agent
- Upgrade DEM Manager
- Upgrade DEM GPO Templates
- Clean Up GPO settings
- Upgrade Application Profiler Capture-VM (N/A)
