VMware Horizon – Upgrade Horizon Enrollment Servers to v. 2111

Release date: January 3rd 2022

Welcome to my VMware Horizon series. In this session I will describe how I upgraded my VMware Horizon Enrollment Server to v. 2111. The upgrade of the VMware Horizon Enrollment Server is quite similar to upgrading the Connection Servers. As with the Connection Server upgrade, I start out by downloading the installation media from VMware Customer Connect

Before I start the upgrade, I verify the installed versions from Control Panel. I also make sure I have a recent backup of the server before I proceed.

Next, I download the executable to my Enrollment Server

As with the upgrade of my second Connection Server, I launch an administrative cmd prompt and do a silent upgrade, the only difference is the VDM_SERVER_INSTANCE_TYPE=5 value

VMware-Horizon-Connection-Server-x86_64-8.4.0-19067837.exe /s /v"/qn VDM_SERVER_INSTANCE_TYPE=5 VDM_INITIAL_ADMIN_SID=S-1-5-32-544"

To verify the upgrade result, I check the log file vminst.log under %AppData%

Once the upgrade is finished, an event is logged about this in Windows Event Viewer.

I do a quick reboot of the Enrollment Server and verify that all services are up and running after the upgrade.

After the installation is done, I can verify in Control Panel the installed version

This concludes my session about upgrading the Enrollment server to v. 2111. I can now proceed with upgrading the GPO-bundles, posted here: VMware Horizon – Upgrade Horizon GPO Bundle to v. 2111
