Release date: August 3rd 2021
Welcome to my VMware Unified Access Gateway series. The new version of Unified Access Gateway, 2106, was GA on July 6th 2021. In this section I will describe how I upgraded my UAG’s to v. 2106
To check out all the new features and changes with VMware Unified Access Gateway 2106, read the release notes from VMware posted here: Release Notes for VMware Unified Access Gateway 2106, below are a list of what is new
Prior to upgrading my existing UAG’s running v. 2103, I have upgraded my Horizon environment to v. 2106. When I check VMware Product Interoperability Matrices, everything looks OK.
First, I download the necessary media from MyVmware.com to my deployment server. Next I export the settings before I start upgrading.
I copy the new ova and uagdeploy powershell files to my working directory
Then I edit ini-files with new ova filename
I redeploy UAG with the new ova-file using the existing ini-files. As we can see from the screenshot below, the script automatically shuts down the existing UAG and deletes it, before deploying the new UAG using the settings I defined in the ini-files. NOTE: When executing the uagdeploy.ps1 script, I previously used PASSWORD PASSWORD false false no as parameters, but these no longer works. I replaced PASSWORD with the passwords i wanted to use instead, which works flawlessly. For details see: Using PowerShell to Deploy the Unified Access Gateway Appliance
When the new UAG is deployed and ready, I log in and import the settings I exported to begin with
Next, I verify Horizon Settings inside UAG UI
When I login to VMware Horizon Administrator, I can see that the Gateways are up and running the new version
To complete the upgrade I re-apply the TLS certificate setup with the certificates I exported from my HAProxy server, as described here: HAProxy Export certificates This completes the UAG upgrade, and I do a test by logging in through the HAProxy and UAG’s.
