VMware Horizon – Add existing RDS server to Horizon

Release date: March 14th 2019

Welcome to my VMware Horizon series. In this session I will describe how to add an existing RDS-server to VMware Horizon View. Many customers have an existing RDS-infrastructure and I’m often asked to add these resources to their new Horizon environment. A prerequisite for this session is that we enable Windows Server desktops in Horizon View, posted here: VMware Horizon View – Enable Windows Server desktops

I have divided this task into 3 sections:

  1. Install Agent in existing RDS-server
  2. Create Manual RDS Farm for existing RDS-server
  3. Create a RDS Pool for existing RDS-server

Testing

Once the tasks above are finished, I login two of my test-users. They will now have access to the new Manual RD Pool from the Horizon Web-portal

When I check sessions in the ManualRDPool, I can see that both my test-users are connected to the same RDS-server, as there is only one RDS-server in the Farm.

Likewise, I verify from within the RDS Server, that my test-users are logged into the same server
