Release date: April 15th 2019
Welcome to my VMware Horizon series. In this sub-session I will describe how I created and customized the Virtual Machine for my Server 2016 RDS template.
As I already have a very nice template in vSphere, I will use this. I start the “Deploy New VM from Template Wizard” in the VMware vSphere Web Client. I give my new template a Virtual Machine Name and place it in my Templates folder, Next
I select my cluster for compute resource, Next
I select my datastore-cluster for storage, Next
I select “Customize this Virtual machine’s hardware”, Next
I specify “Virtual Hardware Settings”:
- 4 vCpu’s
- 4 GB Memory
- PortGroup for my vNic
As this is a LAB-setup, my virtual hardware are very low-key, but in a production environment I would do a decent evaluation of the RDS virtual hardware setup prior to setting up my template.
I click “Next” and “Finish” to start creation of my template-VM
That concludes my session about how I created and customized the Virtual Machine for my Server 2016 RDS Template. My next logical step will be to customize Windows, covered here: VMware Horizon – Setup Server 2016 RDS Template – Customize Windows
