Release date: March 16th 2020
Welcome to my VMware Dynamic Environment Manager series. In this session I will describe how I set up my application profiler VM. This is the Windows 10 desktop I use for profiling applications that aren’t a part of DEM out of the box.
The first thing I do is to install the Windows 10 VM, I won’t go into details about this here, but it is a straight forward Windows 10 install, complete with domain join. As best practice I make sure to patch the OS with critical patches from MS at any time.
Once the Windows is installed and patched, I also install the VMware App Volumes Agent, as I will use this when capturing settings with Application Profiler. Next, I proceed with installing the Application Profiler which is under Optional Components in the installation media.
I launch the x64-installer as I am using 64 bit MS Windows 10 for this
The VMware DEM Application Profiler Setup Wizard launches, Next…
I accept the license agreement, Next…
The component and path is applicable, Next…
Install…
When the installation is complete, Finish…
After the installation finishes, I shutdown the VM and take a snapshot, prior to using this VM to capture application profiles, covered here: Capture Application Profile
