Dell WMS – DHCP Configuration

Release date: February 21st 2021, Updated February 3rd 2023

Welcome to my Dell Wyse Management Studio section. In this sub-section I will describe how configured the necessary DHCP Options. These are described in the documentation here: Dell Wyse Management Suite Version 4 Administrator’s Guide

DHCP Predefined Options:

NameData TypeCodeDescriptionValue
VMSString165VMS_Serverwyse-01.ad.admin.frelab.net
MQTTString166MQTT_Serverwyse-01.ad.admin.frelab.net
CA ValidationString167CA ValidationFALSE
Group TokenString199Group Tokendefa-8A2Ui@k<

I launch the DHCP Administrator Snap-in, right-click IPv4 and select “Set Predefined Options

Add

To create the 165 Wyse Management Suite server URL option, I enter the Name, Data type, Code and Description, OK

I enter the FQDN of my WMS server as String-data, OK

To create the 166 MQTT server URL option, I click Add again and enter the Name, Data type, Code and Description, OK

I enter the FQDN of my WMS server as String-data and make sure to append the correct port, 1883, OK

To create the 167 Wyse Management Suite CA Validation option, I click Add once more and enter the Name, Data type, Code and Description, OK

I enter the String Value “FALSE”, OK

Before I can create the 199 Wyse Management Suite Group Token option, I need to login to the WMS server and copy this. I click the pencil-icon to edit the Unmanaged Group as this is the group I want my devices to end up in when first connecting to the WMS server.

I copy the Group Token value

Back in the DHCP Administrator Snap-In, I click Add one final time and enter the Name, Data type, Code and Description, OK

I enter the Group Token value I copied in the step above with the defa-prefix, OK

This concludes the configuration of the necessary DHCP Options. The next logical step for me is to configure DNS settings, this I have documented here: Dell WMS – DNS setup
