Release date: August 9th 2021
Welcome to my vRealize Operations Manager series. The new 8.5 version of vRealize Operations Manager was GA August 2nd 2021. In this session I will describe how upgraded my installation with the latest version. From VMware’s official Release Notes we can read what’s new in this version.
I begin by by logging into the Admin-UI of my vRops Manager
Prior to upgrading I will need to take my cluster offline, as you can see, I’m currently running 8.0.0.
Before I started the upgrade, I checked that my upgrade path was compatible and downloaded the necessary PAK-files from My VMware.
Once the cluster is offline, I can start the actual upgrade process. It is best practice to install and run the Pre-Upgrade Assessment Tool before upgrading vRealize Operations Manager.
I browse to the location where I download the Pre-Upgrade Assessment Tool and select it:
I proceed with uploading the PAK-file
Once the PAK-file is uploaded and validated, I proceed and click Next…
I accept the License Agreement and read through the Important Update and Release Information
Finally, I click Install…
Once I have run the Pre-Upgrade Assessment Tool and verified that the upgrade is safe, I start the vRops upgrade process
I browse and select my upgrade PAK-file, Upload…
Once the PAK-file is uploaded and validated, I proceed and click Next…
I accept the License Agreement and read through the Important Update and Release Information
Finally, I click Install…
Once the upgrade have finished, after what seemed like a long time, a few cups of coffee, I can verify the running version and that the cluster was automatically taken Online after the upgrade finished.
This completes my little session about vRealize Operations Manager Upgrade. Lastly I log into my vRops and verify that all my dashboards are running and that the vCenter and Horizon solution is being monitored as it was before the upgrade.
