VMware Horizon, App Volumes and DEM – Easter Upgrade

The new 2303 version of VMware Horizon, App Volumes and Dynamic Environment Manager, was released at the end of March 2023. As this coincided with the Easter holidays here in Norway, I decided to spend some of my downtime upgrading the lab-environment. Although this may seem as a big and time-consuming task, it really isn’t when using as much automation as I do in my Lab.

When doing the upgrades, I always try to follow the Update sequence for Horizon 7, Horizon 8, and compatible VMware products  (78445)

Upgrade-procedure:

  1. Clients (Powershell script)
  2. Load Balancer (Manual procedure)
  3. Third Party Software (N/A)
    • Nvidia
    • Dell Wyse
  4. Workspace One Access (No Upgrade Available)
  5. App Volumes Managers (Powershell script)
  6. Composer Server (N/A)
  7. Connection Servers (Powershell script)
  8. UAG’s (Powershell script)
  9. vSphere (N/A)
  10. VMware Tools (N/A)
  11. OS Optimization Tool MDT Plugin
  12. Agents
  13. DEM Management Console (Powershell script)
  14. ADMX files
  15. App Volumes Templates (Manual procedure)

As I mentioned above, doing the version-lift with automation isn’t really that hard, drinking all that coffee on the other hand, is…..:)

Although I didn’t include it above, the Horizon API’s are also upgraded and the change log is available here: Horizon Server REST Changelog 2303
