Release date: February 20th 2021, Updated February 3rd 2023
Welcome to my Dell Wyse Management Studio section. In this sub-section I will describe how I installed and did the base configuration of Dell Wyse Management Suite (WMS). This process involves a basic installation using the downloaded media files. Beforehand, I had created a virtual machine, installed MS Server 2019, given it an IP-address in the appropriate VLAN and joined it to the domain. When creating the virtual machine, I referred to the sizing recommendations as prescribed in the Dell Wyse Management Suite Version 3.x and 4.x Deployment Guide. Furthermore, I adhered to this guide for firewall port openings and antivirus-exclusions.
Before I ran through the installation, I disabled IE Enhanced Security Configuration
So, with all this done, I logged into my WMS server and started the installation using the downloaded installer.
When the installer launches, I pay special attention to the important notice, Next…
I accept the License agreement, Next…
In the “Setup Type” selection, I choose Custom, Next…
I select the Embedded Mongo and Maria DB and supply a password, Next…
I leave the Port-definitions as suggested by the installer, Next…
In the Credentials screen, I provide the necessary information, Next…
As I wont be configuring any Teradici-settings as of now, I skip this, Next…
I will be using an Existing Domain User as my Service Account, I make sure this account has Log On As a Service permissions, Next…
I also provide a good password to the Software Vault, Next…
I will be using TLSv1.2 and TLSv1.3, Next…
The suggested destinations are appropriate for this lab setup, I would suggest reading the deployment guide before setting these settings in a production environment, Next…
Everything looks nice and “tidy”, Next…
Once the installer finishes successfully, I click Launch, to do the initial base configuration.
I click “Get Started” to run through the initial set up steps
As Dell couldn’t get me an NFR-license for this lab, I will be using the “Free Edition”, Next…
In the next screen I can provide email alert settings, I wont be using this in the lab setup, so I click Skip…
I import my Root CA certificate, Next…
As I will do the certificate set up manually later in this guide, I click “Skip” in this screen too
I will be using “Enrollment Validation”, so I select this and click Save, Next…
Once everything is completed I can continue and sign into my new Dell Wyse Management Studio server.
This concludes the installation and base configuration of WMS. The next logical step for me is to configure my Domain CA template and certificate to use with this WMS server, this I have documented here: Dell WMS – Certificate Template Configuration

Where can I find the complete installation of Dell Wyse Management 4.0? In the link (https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/wyse-wms/drivers) there are only hotfixes.
