Trend Micro – Deep Security Upgrade

Release date: October 10th 2021

Welcome to my Trend Micro Deep Security Series. In this quick session I will describe how I upgraded Deep Security to the latest version. This is not a very big set up, just a virtual MS Windows 2016 server running Deep Security Manager and a SQL database on a separate SQL server. The process of upgrading this environment isn’t terribly complex, I have identified the following tasks to be completed

  • Backup and snapshot
  • Upgrade Deep Security Manager
  • Upgrade Appliances (If necessary)
  • Upgrade Relay Servers
  • Upgrade Agents

Before I start the upgrade, I make sure I have a valid backup and shut down the virtual machine to take a snapshot. Once done, the first thing I do in this upgrade, is to download the Deep Security Manager installer from Trend Micro Download Center. The release notes can be found here: What’s new. I also verify the running version beforehand.

To start the upgrade I launch the installer, select the language, OK

The Setup Wizard launches, Next

I accept the license terms, Next

The installer detects my installed version and offers to upgrade this, Next

Before I can upgrade, I will need to do a Readness Check

The Readness Check concludes almost all green results, which means I can continue by clicking Upgrade Deep Security Manager

I won’t be encrypting the master key at this point, Next

As everything looks good, I click Install

Once the upgrade is done, I select “Launch the Deep Security Manager Console” and click Finish...

Upgrade Appliance

I check Trend Download Center for the latest Deep Security Appliance version, at this point it is the 20.0.0.877

When I verify my running DSVA’s versions, I can see that no upgrade is needed as I’m current on the running version.

Upgrade Relay

Before I start upgrading agents, I will be upgrading my Relay Servers, Upgrade Agent

I will be upgrading to the latest Agent version, Next

The upgrade will be immediate, OK

Once the agent is upgraded, I can verify that I’m running the correct agent version…

I continue by upgrading the rest of the agents in the environment using the same method as with the Relay Server described above. Finally, I remove the snapshot I created to begin with, and, with that, this little session about upgrading Trend Micro Deep Security is done.
